Leonardo Da Vinci is known for so much. He is a true renaissance man. A true renaissance man did more then he needed to, he had an enormous impact all over the world. With his studies on the human anatomy doctors had a better understanding of the human body as well and were able to help patients more. People had better understandings of many things Da Vinci discovered. He is a True Renaissance man

School of Athens

Who would I be?

If I were in the painting I would be Hypatia of Alexandria. At that time when women had no rights or freedom she was brave enough to expound her own ideas of Science, Mathematics and Philosophy. Her risk taking behavior had earned wrath but now is an inspirational role model too many women. She is on the side of Plato and is listening to Pythagoras. I believe i would be Hypatia because i too stand up for the rights of people just like her and would take risks in order to achieve the rights. She also was different and unique since she was the first to teach some men mathematics, science and philosophy. Even in the painting she is in between several other men which grabs our attention. I also like to be different from the crowd and brave enough to make a difference.

"School of Athens" by Rapheal

Renaissance was a period that had rediscovered lost knowledge. Art was a major contribute during the Renaissance. New styles, techniques and roman culture formed the Renaissance art. Renaissance art had conveyed messages and ideas to the people. One of these very famous painting was 'The School Of Athens.' This piece was painted by Raphael and had shows the way people understood the way of life during the Renaissance where everyone had some faith in god but some of them started to find out about the world around them using scientific and mathematical methods. We know this since the whole painting is divided into 2 part the right side shows people who has spiritual beliefs which is the bases of Plato's philosophy and on the right are the humanists who has faith in god but looks at the world using curiosity and observation and helped human kind live realistically. Rome and greek cultures also had a great influence and  helped in these experiments. A lot of links are shown between Rome and Renaissance through architectures and way of clothing in the painting. The ' School Of Athens' is a fresco (paintings done on walls, plaster or ceilings) that was painted in the Papal Palace in Vatican City. A lot of famous figures are displayed in the pictures that have played a major part in History. The 'School of Athens' is a visual description of the Renaissance.

Love

Love

love twirled around on the dance floor

her dress sparkled in the lights like the energy in her eyes

as she left

the hearts of many felt abandoned and worthless

This poem relates to Santiago's love life. Santiago was loved my Fatima, very much so. When he had to leave so he could continue on his pathway to his destiny. Santiago promised to return for her one day. She knew that if he did return that it was true love. When santiago left he left her behind, she was left broken hearted but was grateful for him to come in the first place. Fatima quotes "If i am really a part of your dream, you'll come back one day... The dessert takes our men from us, and they don't always return, We know that , and we are used to it. Those who don't return become a part of the clouds, a part of the animals that hide in the ravines and of the water that comes from earth. They become a part of everything.... they become the Soul of the World."(Coelho 93) Everyday Fatima thinks about Santiago and if he will ever return for her.

Life and its Obstacles

The Pathway to Living Life

“I’m the heart of a person, and peoples hearts are that way. People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams, because they feel they don’t deserve them, or that they are unable to achieve them. We, their hearts, become fearful just thinking of loved ones who go away forever, or for moments that could have been good but weren’t, or of treasures that might have been found but were forever hidden in the sands. Because, when these things happen we suffer terribly” (Coelho 124). Santiago the main character in The Alchemist is a Shepherd. Santiago has a dream about some treasure hidden at the Egyptian Pyramids he goes in search of an adventure and his treasure. On his journey he meets people who support him and help him further along his journey. He also meets the love of his life and is forced to make life-changing decisions. If Santiago weren’t persistent, open-minded, and courageous, he would have never reached the treasure or his destiny.

Santiago is persistent and pushes him self to go further and not to give up. Santiago has had the same dream twice in a row, a treasure lying in Egypt at the Pyramids. Santiago’s family isn’t very wealthy and Santiago wants to travel. The only possible way to travel for Santiago is for him to become a Shepard. At first his father doesn’t accept, and wanted him to become a priest as planned. Santiago begs for his father to allow him to go and push’s his dad till he is allowed. But then realizes if he does not help his son who will. His father gives in and hands his son a pouch with three ancient Spanish coins hidden inside“ I found these one day in the fields. I wanted them to be part of your inheritance. But use them to buy your flock.” (Coelho 9) Santiago Buys his flock and sets off to Egypt. In Al-Fayoum, Egypt Santiago meets the love of his life, Fatima. He asks her for her hand in marriage. However she says no, she wants Santiago to reach his destiny “The day after we met, you said you loved me. Then you taught me something of the universal language and the Soul of the World. Because of that, I have become a part of you. Ever since I was a child, I have dreamed that the desert would bring me a wonderful present. Now it has arrived, and its you. You have told me about your dreams, the old king, and your treasure. Now I am a part of your dream, a part of you destiny, as you call it. If I am really a part of your dream, you’ll come back one day.” (Coelho 92, 93) Santiago leaves knowing Al-Fayoum that no matter what he will one day return for Fatima. A scarab is a symbol of God in Egypt, and there was one right in front of Santiago on the sand dune. Santiago thought it was an omen, a sign of God and that the treasure has to be there. Santiago Vigorously started digging for the treasure. Dusk fell upon Santiago as he was struggling to dig, he had been at it for hours at the same place and had found nothing, but kept digging. People approached him seeking money, Santiago told tem about the treasure. They wanted it and started beating it up until morning. He as bruised bleeding and nearly dead. The people left knowing that there was no treasure where Santiago was digging. Before they left one man spoke “You’re not going to die. You’ll live, and you’ll learn that a man shouldn’t be so stupid. Two years ago, right on this spot, I had a recurrent dream, too. I dreamed that I should travel to the fields of Spain and look for a ruined church where Shepard’s and their sheep slept. In my dream, there was a sycamore growing out of the ruins of the sacristy, and I was told that if I dug at the roots of the sycamore I would find a hidden treasure. But I am not so stupid as to cross an entire desert just because a recurrent dream.” (Coelho 155) Now he knew where his treasure was. Being Persistent has helped Santiago to get where he is in his adventure, with his open mind we will be able to go further and closer to his destiny.

Santiago has a bumpy road ahead of him, to reach the end of the road Santiago has to open his mind to new ideas. At Santiago’s first stop he meets the King of Salem in the plaza. Santiago is taught about Urim and Thummim. Urim and Thummim are stones, one stone is white and the other is black, the white stone signifies no and the black yes. If Santiago ever needed to make a decision that he couldn’t make on his on he could just ask a yes or no question and then pull out a stone. Thought Santiago’s journey Urim and Thummim become supremely convenient Further down the road Santiago meets an Englishman who was riding in the same caravan going to Al-Fayoum, who teaches him what the Soul of the World is. The Englishmen states, “ There is a universal language, understood by everybody, but already forgotten. I am in search of that universal language, among other things. That’s why I’m here. I have to find a man who knows that universal language. Alchemist” and “ That’s the principle that governs all things. In Alchemy, it’s called the soul of the world. When you want something with all your heart, that’s when you are closest to the Soul of the World. It’s always a positive force.” (Coelho 67, 75) now Santiago desires to meet the Alchemist so he as well can learn the Soul of the World. At the end of the road Santiago finally meets the Alchemist. Who teaches Santiago how to listen to his heart so he can turn into the wind and reach the Soul of the World. “ Don’t give into your fears, if you do, you won’t be able to listen to your heart. If a person is out his destiny, he knows everything he needs to know. There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” The Alchemist claimed. Santiago learns how to listen to his heart and how to turn into the wind. He uses these to reach the Soul of the World, “The boy reached through to the Soul of the World, and saw that it was part of the Soul of God. And he saw the soul of God was his own soul. And that he a boy, cold perform miracles.”(Coelho 145). Santiago is open-minded and that has helped him this far; however, he now needs to use his courage to carry on with achieving his Destiny.

Courage has been important to Santiago Throught his journey, he uses his courage to do things he normally wouldn’t that will help him with participating in his destiny. In the beginning of the book Santiago summons up the courage to travel. He talks with his dad, at first his dad says no to helping Santiago travel, but then realizes if he doesn’t who will? Santiago was very courageous to go up to his dad and propose an idea that was unusual to his family. Santiago meets a boy in bar once he had settled down. The boy decides to help Santiago reach the pyramids. In order to do this the boy needed all of Santiago’s money. They start traveling through the markets when suddenly “Then he realized that he had been distracted for a few moments, looking at the sword. His heart squeezed, as if his chest had suddenly compressed it. He was afraid to look around, because he knew what he would find. He continued to look at the beautiful sword for a bit longer, until he summoned the courage to turn around…. But nowhere could he find his new companion…. The boy wanted to believe that his friend had simply become separated from him by accident, He decided to stay and await his return. (Coelho 36) Santiago was very Brave to trust the other boy with his money but maybe should be more careful. Santiago meets the love of his life in Al-Fayoum, and bravely leaves her to achieve his destiny and to one day return for her. Her name is Fatima. Santiago asks for her hand in marriage to be sure that they will be together forever and so that he can stay with her, but she says no, she want Santiago to achieve his destiny with out obstacles in the way. Santiago promises to one day return for Fatima. Courage takes a huge role in this, you must be brave and strong to ask for somebody’s hand in marriage. Courage and Bravery are needed to achieve anything especially when it comes to achieving Santiago’s own Destiny.

Santiago has used his persistence, open mind, and his courage to reach his treasure, his destiny. He pushes him self thought his journey and, he opens his minds to new ideas and new ways of life and doing different tasks, and Explores different tasks in different ways and takes a lot of risks. Without Santiago being persistent, open minded, and courageous Santiago would have never achieved his true destiny.

All You Need is Confidence

Confidence is the key to a successful life. Confidence has make me the person I am, Im comfortable with asking questions in class, trying new ways of attending projects and assignments, and attempting almost everything I am asked to do. I try to make the right decisions, but I do not always end up doing what is right, I know that I am still learning and that one day i hope that I have the confidence to make the right decision and to one day live a successful life doing what ever comes my way. I need to develop more confidence, but not to much that I believe I am the best and that I do everything right. All I need is to believe is that I am the best I can be. Confidence is very important quality for me to posses to achieve my destiny, and to live a happy successful life
